Formation history and development

Institute for Agricultural Environment (IAE), an institute member of Vietnamese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (VAAS) was established on 10 April 2008 according to Decision No 1084/QD-BNN-TCCB issued by The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD). IAE’s functions and tasks were assigned by MARD in Decision No 3175/QĐ-BNN on 26/12/2011.

Nowadays, IAE has 126 staffs, of which there are two Professors, 14 Doctors, 65 Masters, 45 engineers.

IAE consists of three function departments

3.    Department of Accounting and Finance

IAE consists of five research departments

1.    Department of Environmental Safety and Biodiversity

2.    Department of Environmental Chemistry

5.    Department of Environmental Biology

IAE consists of two centers

1.    Center for Environmental Analysis and Technology Transfer

2.    Central Highland and Coastal Center for Agricultural Environment Monitoring

IAE consists of two stations

1.    Northern Station for analysis agricultural environment

2.    Southern Station for analysis agricultural environment

In addition, IAE also organized other activities of the Council of Science and Technology, a number of research groups and other Science and Technology Councils. IAE has been approved the 115 mechanizm by MARD to be responsed by its self as the Decision 2781/QD-BNN-KHCN dated October, 02 2009

With the history of 7 years, IAE had organized a number of scientific missions

·         20 national tasks (including two basic research projects, five topics under the national Scientific and Technology programs, three independent national projects, eight topics under the Mountainous rural programs, two pilot production projects).

·         46 missions at Ministry level, of which 23 environmental missions

·         14 basical missions

·         19 international cooperation missions

·         17 local cooperation missions

·         168 service contracts and 25 cooperation missions

Scientific and technology development activities mainly focus on the following subject

Monitoring soil quality frequently and creating the database, warning agricultural and rural environment pollutions

Developing microbiological products, using agricultural residues to producing organic fertilizers and treating field disposals.

Developing technical treatments for rural environmental pollutions, liquid wastes

Developing techniques and proposing solutions for collecting, processing pesticides plastic bags

Conducting research study on producing biochar from agricultural residue

Conducting scientific and technology solutions and managing safety agricultural services

Developing household waste water treatments for asenic and heavy metals contaminations

Assessment impact of climate change on agriculture and proposing adaptation solutions

Studying policies and mechanisms for environmental protection of agriculture and rural development.

In recent years, IAE has transferred two new crops, five microbiological products and 21 scientific and technological processes related to agricultural environmental pollution treatments to 29 cities and provinces and issued 30 safety agricultural products certificates as VietGAP to 8 provinces.

IAE had developed and managed a Laboratory as standard ViLas 621, ISO 17025:2005 and was assigned by MARD to analysis environmental quality, agricultural quality, food supplied for livestock and aquaculture. Today, IAE’s lab is able to provide analyzing services of nearly 400 criteria of environmental quality and agricultural products including:

65 criteria of water quality

13 criteria of air quality

20 criteria of soil quality

50 criteria of fertilizer quality

20 criteria of hazard waste, solid waste and sludge

199 criteria of food quality and aquaculture and livestock products

20 criteria of microorganisms
